International Journal for Equity in Health is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal presenting evidence relevant to the search for, and attainment of, equity in health across and within countries.

International Journal for Equity in Health aims to improve the understanding of issues that influence the health of populations. This includes the discussion of political, policy-related, economic, social and health services-related influences, particularly with regard to systematic differences in distributions of one or more aspects of health in population groups defined demographically, geographically, or socially.

'Economic crisis in Europe and Equity in Health' Call for Papers

An unprecedented economic crisis is affecting Europe, focusing mainly on the southern countries. Improving health and reducing health inequalities in this macro-economic environment is going to be a great challenge.

We therefore invite you to submit a manuscript to a new thematic series from the International Journal for Equity in Health entitled 'Economic crisis in Europe and Equity in Health' and guest edited by Miguel San Sebastián, Antonio Escolar Pujolar and Amaia Bacigalupe. The series welcomes research from different disciplines and methodologies on a wide range of topics relating to the economic crisis in Europe and health inequalities.

A 20% discount off the article processing charge will be granted to all accepted manuscripts that have undergone rigorous peer review according to the journal's policy, which like other discounts for this journal must be requested at initial submission.

'Multimorbidity and Equity in Health' - Call for Papers

International Journal for Equity in Health announces the launch of a series looking at Multimorbidity and Equity in Health. Multimorbidity, the co-occurrence of health conditions in individuals and populations, is a phenomenon with high burden and high prevalence in persons and groups of disadvantaged circumstances, such as low socioeconomic status, immigrants, and ethnic/cultural minorities.

This special issue accepts papers on patterns and trends of multimorbidity inequity, variations in multimorbidity burden by social characteristics, and on the impact of multimorbidity inequity on health care resource use and outcomes.

We encourage submissions to this ongoing rolling series, please indicate in the cover letter the manuscript is submitted to the Multimorbidity and Equity in Health series.

A tribute to Professor Barbara Starfield

Barbara Starfield, the founding editor of the International Journal for Equity in Health, co-founder and first president of the International Society for Equity in Health, Distinguished University Professor of Health Policy and Management and Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University, a seminal researcher and highly praised teacher, died suddenly on Friday, June 10, 2011.
